Same salary, higher pension contribution every year — 9.5% to 13%
The National Pension contribution rate rises from 9.5% in 2026 by 0.5 points a year to 13% in 2033. Worker and employer pay half each, so on ₩3M a month the worker's share goes from ₩135,000 in 2025 to ₩142,500 in 2026, ₩150,000 in 2027 and ₩195,000 in 2033. The deduction rises even if pay does not.

Why it works this way
Some of you saw the pension line on January's payslip go up, with pay unchanged. The contribution rate went from 9% to 9.5%.
And it is not a one-off.
국민연금법 부칙 제4조제1항 (Act No. 21203).
- 20269.5% (worker 4.75% + employer 4.75%)
- 202710% → 2028 10.5% → … 0.5 points a year
- 203313% (6.5% each)
Article 88(3) of the main text already says 13%. The addenda step it up one year at a time. Read the main text alone and you are four points out.
On ₩3M a month, worker's share only: ₩135,000 at 9% in 2025, ₩142,500 this year, ₩150,000 next year, ₩195,000 in 2033. With no pay rise at all, the deduction is ₩60,000 a month higher eight years from now.

- Workplace membersworker contribution and employer contribution are equal
- ₩3M · 2026worker ₩142,500 + employer ₩142,500 = ₩285,000
- Individually insuredpay the whole amount (9.5% in 2026, 13% in 2033)
Freelancers and the self-employed pay all of it, not half, so the same income moves twice as much.
There is a ceiling. The income on which contributions are charged is capped at ₩6.59M from July 2026, so a ₩10M salary pays on ₩6.59M only. The ceiling itself rises every July.
One caution on net-pay tables: last year's were computed at 9%, so this year's take-home is lower than they show, and next year differs again. The calculator follows the rate for each year.
In short: the National Pension rate climbs 0.5 points a year from 9.5% in 2026 to 13% in 2033, and on ₩3M a month the worker's share rises ₩60,000 a month over eight years.

Frequently asked
Why does the main text say 13% when it is 9.5% now?
The 2025 amendment set Article 88(3) at 13% and added Article 4 of the addenda stepping it up 0.5 points a year from 2026 to 2032. The main-text 13% applies from 2033.
Does the employer's share rise too?
Yes. The two shares are equal, so on ₩3M the employer also pays ₩195,000 in 2033.
What about freelancers and the self-employed?
Individually insured members pay the whole amount, 9.5% in 2026 and 13% in 2033. The combined rate is the same but it is not split.
What if I earn over ₩6.59M?
The standard monthly income ceiling is ₩6.59M (2026-07 to 2027-06), so income above it carries no contribution. The 2026 worker maximum is ₩6.59M × 4.75% = ₩313,025.
Do I get more back for paying more?
The income replacement rate was adjusted alongside the rate rise. Benefits depend on contribution period, average income and the replacement rate, so they do not rise in proportion to contributions. This page covers contributions only.
