Whether your item or situation is within a threshold a rule sets.

This is for everyday questions that come down to a number, not tax or legal matters. When a rule sets a threshold in one unit and your item is labelled in another, so the two cannot be compared at a glance, these calculators convert the unit and check whether you are within the rule. For now there is one: the power bank carry-on calculator.

Where to start

  1. Power Bank Flight Carry-On Calculator (Korea)

Products are labelled in mAh but the carry-on rule is in watt-hours. It converts capacity and voltage to watt-hours, shows whether you need no approval, need the airline's approval, or cannot carry it, and then checks the limit on the number.

Judging by mAh alone gets it wrong

The carry-on rule for power banks is set in watt-hours, not mAh. The same mAh gives a different watt-hour figure at a different rated voltage, so enter the voltage printed on the product or enter its watt-hours directly. The limit on the number applies separately from capacity.

Not in this group

Batteries inside a laptop or camera
The calculator in this category covers power banks only. A battery installed in a device is handled by a separate line of the ministry notice, so check with your airline.
Airline-specific and country-specific rules
The verdict here follows the Korean transport ministry's rule only. Airlines and countries may be stricter, so check with your airline before departure.

The law this group rests on

The provisions reflected across these 1 calculators. Statute names stay in Korean so you can look them up; when one changes, every calculator listed here moves with it.
